  • 200 g (7 oz) of sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup of tomato sauce or tomato paste
  • 1 cup of heavy cream or sour cream
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

For Serving:

  • Cooked white rice
  • Potato sticks (batata palha)

  1. Cook the beef: Heat the olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the strips of beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.
  2. Sauté the onions and garlic: In the same pan, add the chopped onions and garlic. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the mushrooms: If using mushrooms, add them to the pan and cook for another 3-4 minutes until they are soft and lightly browned.
  4. Make the sauce: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and tomato sauce. Let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
  5. Finish the stroganoff: Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream or sour cream. Add the browned beef back into the pan, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce is creamy and the beef is fully cooked.
  6. Serve: Serve the stroganoff over white rice and top with crispy potato sticks (batata palha). Garnish with fresh parsley.
